The catastrophic explosion that caused an oil spill from an offshore drilling rig owned by The BP (A British global energy company which is the third largest energy company and fourth largest company in the world) in the Gulf of Mexico has left irreversible damage to the coast line ,aquatic life also affecting the life of fishermen and other inhabitants around the area.
THE EXPLOSION.
The leak is currently releasing 5000 barrels of oil per day and efforts to manage the spill with controlled burning, dispersal and pluuging the leak were unsuccessful. This oil spill is on track to become the worst in history.
The BP's rig is tapped tp an underwater oil well and could pump more oil indefinitely untill the leak is plugged.
THE OIL SPILL PICTURED.
The whole gulf is covered in thick layers of oil and hardened oil blobs. The sheath of oil is fast approaching the land and operations to stop this with the help of booms are taking place .Local fishermen and shrimp boat owners are being trained to do the same.
AQUATIC LIFE.
The hardest hit are the sea turtles and other marine animals such as squids and porpoises.Hundreds of them have been found as rotting carcasses along the coastline.
BRETON ISLAND SANCTUARY.
The breton island sanctuary has also been made prey to this horrifying incident. The pelicans inhabiting the island have been drenched in the oil and most have died as a result.Veterinarians are actively volunteering in rescuing the left out birds and in helping clean them of the oil.
